Day Trip to Sedona ~ West Fork Trail, Part 2

Since there were so many pictures from this one hike, I thought it would be a good idea to split the post. I just fell in love with this trail, the creek, the excitement of the kids, the rock formations, being surrounded by nature, the exploring...

Next we found this cool place in the shade. It was this little alcove shaped by trees above and rocks on the side of the creek. The rocks were kind of cold and smooth... a great resting spot for Mimi and I as the kids explored. They found minnows and awesome rocks. They were in heaven!

Hayden was the first one to fall in and get really drenched ;)

After our little break on the cool rocks, we headed thru the creek some more. We found an old log laying across the water. Sophie recognized this right away as a balance beam! She told the boys to do "airplane arms! "

It was at this point in the trail that we decided to head back. We had been hiking for quite awhile now, and had to walk back through the creek. With their curiosity, this could take us awhile ;)

Just as we were to get out of the creek onto the dirt trail, the boys wanted to climb the concave wall. Mimi and I gave it a shot, too!

This was such a fun day trip! We started out just after breakfast and got home in time to pick up a pizza for dinner! This day trip was so worth it...such an awesome place to hike! Until next time...

Day Trip to Sedona ~ West Fork Trail, Part 1

This trail was something else! We hiked for a good 2-2.5 hours, and can't wait to go back to hike it again! This trail started out on a paved course, crossing a bridge. After just several minutes of walking thru some apple trees, the path opened up to beautiful tree covered mountains.

Off to our right was a cave in the side of the mountain! The boys thought this was so awesome, and they quickly climbed up the few rocks to get to the opening.

Once we climbed down from the cave opening, off to our right, again, was something else...this old brick chicken coop/ house. It obviously has been there for a long, long time. When we got into the house, we could see there were 3 rooms at one time.

Back on the trail, we did not know what to expect next ;) Well, we came upon a creek, and the boys were careful to cross because they had gym shoes on. Mimi and I told them it would be okay to get them wet because we had extra clothes and shoes in the car.

And this was our view from the other side of the creek...breath taking!

The kids had fun skipping and throwing rocks in the creek. I love the picture of the 3 of them in a powwow! I wonder what they are talking about?!

We continued on our hike a little bit further down the creek and come to a spot where the mountain literally curved ( rounded curve ) over the creek. I have never seen this before, and Mimi and I just kept taking more and more pictures. This rock formation, due to erosion over thousands of years, was really amazing to see!

See how this rock curves?! ^^^^

Day Trip to Sedona ~ West Fork Trail

Mimi was in town for a week this summer, and we headed up to Sedona for the day. We went to West Fork Trail for the first time, as Daisy highly recommended this trail! Wow, this was my favorite trail so far in Sedona! The scenery was beautiful, and the rock formations were amazing!

As we drove into Sedona, we first went to the Chapel of the Holy Cross. My mom and I love stopping here on our way into town. The views are gorgeous and the Chapel is so peaceful ( and small! ).

After we left the chapel, we headed a bit further into town and stopped at Telaqupaque.  This shopping area is so pretty, we thought it would be a good place to eat our picnic lunch before the hike.

Now that our bellies were full, we were off to the trail!
